Production of wood processing machines signicantly weaker than machinery industry
This report compares the course of production and sales of woodworking machinery with machinery industry in Germany from 2008 to 2022.
June 21st, 2023 - Production of wood processing machines dropped since 2008, the pre-crisis year of the global economic crisis of 2008/2009. This decline worsened significantly in 2019.
On average, woodworking machinery production fell by 4.9% each year over the fourteen years from 2008 to 2022. Finally, in 2022, production was only half the 2008 level.
The drastic decline in production in the wood processing machinery sector is at -4.9% p.a. eight times greater than the decline in machinery industry. There, production fell by -0.6% annually from 2008 to 2022.
Sales development of wood processing machines in synchron with machinery industry
In contrast to production, sales of wood processing machines developing in synchron with sales in machinery industry. At +1.0% p.a., this growth from 2008 to 2022 was broadly in line with the 1.2% p.a. growth in sales in the machinery industry.
The wood processing machinery sector thus shows a significantly below-average development in terms of production and an average development in terms of sales compared to the machinery industry in the fourteen years from 2008 to 2022.
