China's industrial production growing weaker in second half of 2018

The course of China's industrial production from the year 2000 to 2017 is already published here. As growth rates of industrial production have recently changed more strongly, this article follows their quarterly and temporarily monthly course.

Update February 4th, 2019 - The diagram shows the growth rates since December 2017. They moved in a range from 5.4% to 7.2%. These are rates adjusted for prices, i.e. real growth rates.

From January to December 2018 industrial production grew by 6.2% compared to the same period of previous year according to the National Statistical Office of China.

China's industrial production growing weaker in the fourth quarter than in the previous quarters of 2018

The diagram shows the quarterly index changes of China's industrial production since the first quarter 2014 up to the fourth quarter 2018.

Since 2014 industrial production grew continuously, however, at lower growth rates as the diagram confirms. Since the third quarter 2016 growth rates are again increasing compared to previous quarters reaching double-digit increase.

The index of industrial production increased more strongly in first half year 2018 with 11.1 and 11.4 index points than in first half year 2017 with 10.9 resp. 11.0 index points.

In the third and fourth quarters of 2018, quarterly growth was 10.4 and 10.0 index points higher than in the third and fourth quarters of 2017 and thus lower than in the first two quarters of 2018.
