China's industrial production on rollercoaster ride since 2020
The diagram shows the quarterly index changes of China's industrial production since the first quarter 2019 up to the first quarter 2023.
The outbreak of the Corona pandemic in China led to strict lockdowns also at industrial plants, as well as production delays due to control measures.
Once the pandemic was largely overcome, industrial production skyrocketed. The pent-up domestic Chinese demand had to be met. And demand from still pandemic-stricken foreign countries was high.
The first quarter of 2022 indicated a normalization of industrial production at a higher level than before the outbreak of the pandemic. In the first quarter of 2023 industrial production grew again clearly.
