Fair in China

Fair for automation technology in Guangzhou (Canton)

In Guangzhou, China, the SIFA, SPS – Industrial Automation Fair Guangzhou, took place from March 3rd to March 5th, 2014. This fair is a sister fair of the SPS/IPC/DRIVES fair in Nuremberg, Germany and is organized in cooperation with the Fair Frankfurt.

Nearly 500 exhibitors represented automation technology in three large halls as part of the huge exhibition complex in the south of Guangzhou. This fair plays a central role for the large South Chinese market.

A review of the fair’s organizer regarding number of visitors is still pending; last year more than 25,000 visitors entered the fair.

The fair was well frequented.

In regard to the exhibitors the represented automation technology can be divided into three groups, i.e. components, robots and integrated automation technology.

Numerously mainly Chinese companies with small stands offered components such as AC motors, sensors or relays. Linear actuators played a significantly larger role than on the fair in Nuremberg.

Above all companies from Asia provided robots.

Integrated automation technology such as motion control, control technology with Ethernet-based field buses or Ethernet field buses were mainly offered by European, primarily German companies. German companies also shaped the seminars.

This grouping of the exhibitors may serve as an interpretation of the current situation in China.

On the one hand very modern production sites mainly of the large international companies using the state of the art automation technology and robotics. So e.g. at Toyota in Guangzhou nearly 6,000 workers manufacture about 300,000 cars per year using intensively robots.

On the other hand there are many Chinese manufacturers serving mainly the domestic market. Production is already largely based on microelectronics but without system character. To these manufacturers the Chinese automation suppliers are delivering their components.

An economically priced and good lunch for visitors of several fairs in parallel in the huge fair complex.

Guangzhou, also called Canton, is located in the south of China at the Pearl River, close to Hong Kong.
