Ethernet cables for track chains are important

How important are track chain-suited Ethernet cables to machine-builders and food manufacturers? And how content were and are these users with the solutions?

High priority for the machine-builders...

February 14th, 2011 - In 2008 the machine-builders, producing 75% of the machines with real time Ethernet, called track chain-suited Ethernet cables as „very important“ or „important“ in the context of a market survey. That was among 13 criteria the third-most important requirement!

However, with 56% more than half of these machine-builders were dissatisfied with the present solutions in the practice.

2 years later machine-builders, producing 64% of the machines with real time Ethernet, confirmed the importance of track chain-suited Ethernet cables. Obviously the offered range of products was ameliorated because with 77% more than three quarters of the machine-builders were now content with the found solutions.

… and for food manufacturers too

In the food industry too there is nearly no way around to use track chain-suited Ethernet cables.

  • „Track chains are used in the automatic warehouse for moving machines. Because they will eventually break as for each cable “it is the ten thousandth times”, one tested infrared light barriers for the data communication. Those transmitted the data to the PLC. But that worked not satisfactorily because they got dirty. Therefore the best is still the data communication by cables.“ (Sweet goods)
  • „One wants to connect the servo drives by track chains. The alternative to realise this via WLAN one rejected for safety reasons. Safety here means operational safety, not the danger of logging in. One fears that signals could be lost via WLAN and one is convinced that the safest transmittal mode is still provided by cables. (Fruit, vegetable, potatoes)

Other food manufacturers are still sceptical.

  • „With track chains a cable breakage is too risky, a risk that one would like to avoid.“ (Beverages)
